The Senator Nancy C. Detert Residential Community: Independence, Friendship, and Opportunity

Since opening in 2016, the Senator Nancy C. Detert Residential Community (SNCDRC) has been changing lives. As the first purpose-built inclusive community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, SNCDRC also welcomes low-income seniors and nonprofit workforce members, creating a vibrant neighborhood where people of all abilities can thrive together. And now, in early 2026, two new neighborhoods are opening to welcome even more residents.

SNCDRC isn’t just a place to live, it’s a place to grow. Residents have access to on-site therapy, social and recreational programs, performing arts, dining, transportation, and flexible support options. Neighbors become friends, independence is encouraged, and every individual is supported in living life on their own terms.

Take Ben and Seth, for example. They’ve been roommates for years and are thrilled about their new opportunity at SNCDRC. With accessible apartments and community events, they’re stepping into a space where independence and friendship go hand in hand. And as our community grows, new residents are signing leases and taking exciting steps toward living more independently.

Independence Villas and Equality Lofts

The Independence Villas offer paired, two-bedroom homes designed for comfort and accessibility. The Equality Lofts are lakefront apartments with a social, connected atmosphere. With 1- and 2-bedroom units, laundry on every floor, and a private community room, the Lofts provide independence alongside friendship and daily opportunities to engage with the wider SNCDRC community.

Every lease signed, every new friendship formed, and every step toward independence reminds us that growth and possibility are always within reach.
